Rising 6th Graders Information

We are so excited to have you join our WCMS family!  We would like to invite you and your WCMS student(s) to attend our IMPs Camp on August 18, 2025 at the designated time based on their last name:

Please note: parking is limited.  You may want to carpool with other new-to-WCMS students if possible!

Imps Camp is an opportunity for students who are new to WCMS and their families to engage with our staff and get familiar with our school community. 

STUDENTS will go straight to the 6th grade hallway without their families to receive their schedule and have an orientation with one of the teachers from their team.  

While students are receiving their orientation, family members will have their own opportunity to hear from our Principal, Larry Savage, take a tour of the school, and connect with our Boosters and PTA programs.  Students and their families will be reunited at the end of the sessions via an announcement over the intercom.

For your convenience, an agenda for families is attached.  Families will receive a paper copy as they arrive, but the hyperlinks in the document are very helpful.  Feel free to go ahead and use the resource prior to arrival at IMPs Camp.

FAQs about IMPs Camp:

My child is new to West Cary but not a 6th grader.  Can they attend?

YES.  IMPs Camp is for ALL students who are new to WCMS regardless of grade level.

Can my student who is not new to WCMS attend?  

No.  Students who have attended WCMS in the past can come to “Meet the Teacher” Night on Monday, August 26th from 4:30-6pm to receive their schedule and meet their teachers.  

Can I just drop my student off and pick them up when IMPs amp is over?

Please plan to have at least one family member attend with the student.  A lot of valuable information will be available for all.  

My family will be on vacation and will miss IMPs camp.  What do we do?

There will not be a make up date for IMPs camp, but we encourage anyone who cannot attend  to come to Meet the Teacher on Monday, August 26th from 4:30-6pm, as a way for you and your student to connect with our community and receive your child’s schedule.  Another way to access schedules is through Powerschools.  If you can also not attend the Meet the Teacher event, no worries!  Staff will be on hand on the first day of school to help students find their classes and give them their schedule.

My student is nervous and wants me to attend IMPs camp with them.  Can I go to the student session?

Students will go to their session separate from their parents.  They will be well taken care of and will meet their team teachers and peers.  It is a great opportunity for them to connect with others their age!

My family does not speak English.  Will there be interpretation services available?

We will have Mandarin and Spanish services available.  If you need another language outside of these, please email Johanna Rogers at [email protected] and we will try to accommodate.

Preguntas frecuentes sobre el campamento IMP:

Mi hijo es nuevo en West Cary pero no está en sexto grado.  ¿Pueden asistir?

SÍ.  El campamento IMPs es para TODOS los estudiantes nuevos en WCMS, independientemente del nivel de grado.

¿Puede asistir mi estudiante que no es nuevo en WCMS?  

No. Los estudiantes que han asistido a WCMS en el pasado pueden venir a la noche "Conozca al maestro" el lunes 26 de agosto de 4:30 a 6 p.m. para recibir su horario y conocer a sus maestros.  

¿Puedo simplemente dejar a mi estudiante y recogerlo cuando termine el amplificador de IMP?

Por favor planee que al menos un miembro de la familia asista con el estudiante.  Mucha información valiosa estará disponible para todos.  

Mi familia estará de vacaciones y se perderá el campamento de IMP.  qué hacemos?

No habrá una fecha de recuperación para el campamento de IMP, pero animamos a cualquiera que no pueda asistir a venir a Meet the Teacher el lunes 26 de agosto de 4:30 a 6:00 p. m., como una manera para que usted y su estudiante se conecten con nuestra comunidad. y reciba el horario de su hijo.  Otra forma de acceder a los horarios es a través de Powerschools.  Si tampoco puedes asistir al evento Meet the Teacher, ¡no te preocupes!  El personal estará disponible el primer día de clases para ayudar a los estudiantes a encontrar sus clases y darles su horario.

Mi estudiante está nervioso y quiere que asista al campamento IMP con él.  ¿Puedo ir a la sesión de estudiantes?
